Review
I wasn't sure how I wanted to rate this book.  Overall, the story was great, it had awesome potential, but I feel like it got cut off too early.  Plots were brought up late in the book that didn't get completed.  The battle almost started, then quickly ended.  I would love to read the second book and the spin-off series.  There has to be a second battle, and I want to know what happens next.

Silver’s PoV

“Missie,” I addressed the only female in the batch of betas. “How about you take me to your brother, and then you and Vandyl can go visit your den?” I plastered on my best smile. Missie’s had a crush on Vandyl since we were pups.
Missie released her Tru’San. She looked like her brother. Trust me, on a female that was not a good thing. She looked like DarkLaw with tits; it was disturbing really. With her hooked nose, beady little eyes and hair in places no female should have hair, I cringed inwardly and I almost felt bad for what I was about to have Vandyl do… Almost.
She slithered up to Vandyl and practically threw herself at him. It was all I could do not to laugh at my poor second. Vandyl looked absolutely horrified. Bet that fucker never calls me “old” again after this.
“Really Vandyl? You finally ready to experience all of this?” Missie asked as she moved her pudgy hands over her bloated body.
Vandyl turned almost as green as his hair and looked to me for help. I winked to him and gave him a smirk.
“Oh yeah Missie, he’s been talking about getting up in there since I told him we were going to visit Chos.” I nodded for emphasis.
Vandyl’s cutting gaze shot daggers at me as he mouthed. “I’m going to fucking kill you, Silver.”
A snort escaped me. “Now you have the three musketeers over here take me to DarkLaw and Vandyl’s all yours.”
Her beady little eyes twinkled, I patted Vandyl on the back as Missie grabbed his wrist tightly in her meaty hand and dragged him away. I chuckled softly as I followed the three betas into the cover of the trees.

Open your eyes to darkness. What do you see? Does the darkness frighten you? Now imagine the darkness being the cargo hold of a slave ship. Your city has fallen. Your family is most likely dead. You don’t know anyone around you, and some of them aren’t even human. Giving up would be so easy to do, but not for Arowyn Mason. Not after being raised in a military family with seven brothers. Every great story should begin with a plan. Aro’s was to escape and to survive. Escape comes, but at a price. As they reach the shore, Aro and the other survivors learn that freedom doesn’t mean safety. The slavers want their property back and will do anything to get it. The party uses every ounce of their brute strength, a hearty helping of cunning, and even ancient magics to keep themselves alive. Sickness, danger, and even love surprise them at every turn. Dealing with danger becomes their way of life, but none of them ever considered that nothing can be quite as dangerous as a prophecy. Running turns into another race altogether as her world falls to pieces again and again.

Excerpt

Her eyes opened to darkness.
She wasn't surprised. When bad things happened and you finally opened your eyes it was always dark wasn't it? Because otherwise when you woke up you wouldn't be scared, not right away, not until you remembered. Yet in darkness nothing else could be seen but the memories of what had happened, it didn't matter if you opened your eyes or kept them squeezed closed.
What happened…
She closed her eyes again, not against the memories, but the sudden tears and choking sobs. Still, she tried to not remember, but her head hurt. All of her hurt, but her head hurt the worst. She'd been hit by something, very hard. She had no trouble remembering the pain. She remembered falling to the ground, her brothers screaming her name over the insane loudness of the fighting and everything fading to nothing as darkness claimed her. She sucked in a deep breath. The fighting. Yes, the city had been attacked. The walls had been breached. There had been fighting in the streets. She had been fighting. Her brothers had been trying to get her out. They had been so close. Had they?
She shifted and froze, terror creeping up her throat and choking her at the same time until nothing but a strangled gurgle came out.
They had not.
She knew because she felt the cold metal shackles around each wrist, felt the weight of the chain between them. The same fetters bound her ankles. Dirty straw prickled her cheek and the other smells of her surroundings overcame her. They overwhelmed her and made her gag. The rank scents of piss, shit and vomit almost covered the stale reek of sweat and the tang of salt.
Salt.
She'd thought her head had just been spinning, but no, everything moved, lurching and swaying. She was at sea. At sea in chains meant only one thing. The rumors had been true. The Gelanians had allied with the Franuan Slavers. Beneath the combined attack, Kingsport had fallen and the Frans had taken their cut, citizens to sell as slaves. She was a slave.
Well that sucks.
The idea terrified her, and left her cold and shaking. Squeezing her eyes closed, she fought to push away the horrifying images suddenly assaulting her. Breathing slowly helped a little. The shaking stopped and finally she could breathe again.
She opened her eyes, straining them against the darkness. Had night fallen? Could that be why it was so dark? Her eyes slowly adjusted until she could make out vague shapes; the bars of the cell in the ships hold and darker shapes of people sitting before her in the small cell.
She concentrated, squinting her eyes and counting. Six others shared the cell. Her brothers? "Paul?" The creak of the ship and the murmurs, curses, and sobs of the other captives in the hold almost drowned out her small voice.
"Boy's awake," one of the shapes said. Definitely not one of her brothers.
She stiffened. They'd called her boy. Even after all she'd been through, it was quite a blow to her self-esteem. She frowned in confusion for a moment, until she remembered. Her brothers had dressed her in their old clothes, old bits of armor that sort of fit. They'd even hacked off her long hair…
She cursed them under her breath again for that. Then she almost smiled, remembering Sammy's face when he'd done it. Her brothers were such morons. They always had been. Yet they'd been stuck with raising her, and what did they know of girls? Her mother had died when she was four, and losing her hadn't been easy on any of them.
Father had been a regiment Commander and away a lot. They'd all managed to take care of her somehow, the younger of her brothers watching over her until eventually they'd all joined the army. But she'd been twelve by the time the youngest of them had enlisted. She'd been able to take care of the house while they served their time on the border. They didn't worry about her much. The army wives had helped, keeping an eye on her for them.
However, father had died two years ago at Demet's Pass. It had been hard, losing him. Harder than when mother had died because she hadn't been old enough then to know what it meant. Not seeing him at the head of their big old table, with his gentle smile, had been tough on all of them. It still was. It had been harder this past spring when her brothers had all ridden out again. Because death had become something real, she knew they might not come back. She was fifteen now. Not really a child anymore. So she had faked a smile and waved goodbye to them all when really fear had made her want to scream instead. They had all come home, but with an enemy army at their heels. They'd been afraid then, afraid for her. They knew things she didn't, things like what would happen to a young girl if the city fell. However, she wasn't a woman yet, not in appearance at any rate. Tall and gangly with no figure whatsoever. No wonder she could pass for a boy.
"Boy."
The man who had spoken before broke her thoughts. She must have been hit in the head hard for her mind to wander back into the past. She managed to croak an incoherent sound indicating she'd heard him.
"You alive over there?"
"Yes," she lied and waited. No one else spoke. No one came rushing to her side. Panic quickened her breath as fear sped her heart. Her brothers weren't here. If they had been they'd have harassed everyone to find out where she was. At least… they weren't on this boat. Unfortunately, the slavers had a whole fleet. They must be on another boat. She had to believe that. She closed her eyes tightly again. Yes, they'd been placed on another boat.
Because if they weren't then they were all dead.

Review of No Brainer by A. J. Lape

Two weeks before junior year, Darcy hops a plane to Orlando for a little R&R with her best friend Dylan and his family. Fresh off the heels of solving three murders in Valley, you'd think she'd sit back and enjoy the vacation capital of the world ... maybe if you're a noun. Darcy Walker, however, is nothing but verb.
Before her feet hit the Orlando soil, she's meddling in the disappearance of a five-year-old boy who vanished six months earlier.

With authorities still no closer to solving the case, Darcy is shanghaied by her impulsivity and runs headlong into that proverbial burning building, convinced she can bring him home.

She travels down a road that not only follows this missing child but branches off into the corrupt and sinister world of mob activity when she tampers in a case on which Dylan's detective grandfather is working.

After a near disastrous midnight meeting in a warehouse and a date with a mechanical bull, Darcy realizes she might've bitten off more than she can chew. Add the boiling flirtationship with her best friend and the appearance of his romantic rival, and she is in over her head.

Will she survive a life of flirting with death too easily? Or will her flirtationship with Dylan become the actual death of her instead?

For a girl with a habit of finding dead bodies, No Brainer gives Darcy Walker more of the same ... surprising twists and turns ... and running for her life.

Review
When the Darcy ship hits an iceberg, she hits the biggest one! LOL! This was a great read! A. J. just sucks the reader into her stories. My heart was beating so hard at some parts, it was that intense. If you read when it's quiet, be prepared to scare someone (I scared the cat AND the dog) when you randomly burst out laughing. I about died laughing when she said Mother May I?! To tell you more would ruin it. This book is a fun, intense, and frustrating read, that just makes the reader want to slap the characters at times. Luckily the next one comes out soon. I don't think I could wait a year for it, A. J. really knows how to write a cliffhanger!

A. J. lives in Cincinnati with her husband, two feministic daughters, an ADD dog, a spoiled hamster, and an unapologetic and unrepentant addiction to Coca-Cola. She studied English, Journalism, and Political Science at Morehead State University and left the business world when her daughters were born. Her love for suspense and a good story was born from watching Mystery Science Theater with her sister during childhood. That and any B-movie with comedic undertones they could get their hands on.

From a small town in Kentucky, her sister and she lived in their imaginations on a regular basis, and A.J.'s love for the bizarre and paranormal still holds true to this day. She loves roller coasters, scary movies, and haunted houses and the weird sense of accomplishment it gives her when she can make it through without keeling over.

If Life has taught her anything, it's the need to acquire a wicked sense of humor, come up swinging, and to never, ever give up...no matter what obstacle is in front of you.

When she's not riding that razor-thin line between creativity and insanity, she likes to read, watch too much cable TV, or cheer like a banshee at her daughters' sporting events.

A. J. loves to connect with fans! You can find her via Twitter and Facebook or send an Email.  You can also find an author interview on her Amazon Author Page and learn more about Darcy on Darcy's Twitter.

Review of Baker's Dozen by M. Will Smith

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUVI5DW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00BUVI5DW&linkCode=as2&tag=yohameatfrbo-20Blurb
Rose Baker is both shocked and infuriated to find that her brother Judd has been the ringleader of a conspiracy to promote political assassinations over the years. These assassinations were of Rose’s political idols. In the violent argument that ensues, Judd falls and is fatally injured.
Certain that his dozen co-conspirators will never face the justice they deserve, she hatches a plan to make sure that they do. Traveling the four corners of the country, she takes them out, one by one. Always a step ahead of the conspirators and the authorities, who never suspect a seventy year old well-dressed woman to be involved in such acts, they have no idea who to look for.
Along the way, Rose begins to suspect that the conspiracy is much deeper than the thirteen men, so decides to pursue it to wherever it leads. FBI detectives Chuck and Cathy, who picked up on the murderous rampage midway through Rose’s march across the country, are slow to put the pieces together but finally catch up with her near the end. Baker’s Dozen is about political hatred and retribution in the extreme, and how idealistic beliefs can permanently distort one’s perspective regardless of which side is involved.

Review
To be honest, I really couldn't get into this book.  I haven't finished it yet, but I've been reading for two days and it keeps putting me to sleep.  I was even tired...  I'm going to keep reading in hopes that it gets better, but if something exciting doesn't happen soon, I don't know that it will.  She's already made it across the country and killed several of her marks.  I know this book has received higher ratings from others, some even saying that they couldn't put it down.  Maybe it's just that while I understand her reasoning, morally I can't really get behind what Rose is doing?  I'm really not sure.  It just seems that this book could be more.  Keep in mind that this is only one opinion.  It's still worth reading, so don't let me dissuade you from buying it.  You should really read it for yourself.

Bio
Mr. Smith retired early from a job as a transportation planner in the Pacific Northwest and went sailing by himself. He lived on the sailboat for ten years and sailed up and down the West Coast from Seattle to central Mexico. During that time he wrote a number of novels while in anchorages or marinas. However, he did not publish them, so they sat for over ten years on floppy discs. Last year his wife discovered them and after reading one insisted that he publish it. After considerable editing, he did so through his daughter’s publishing company, Red Frog. Since then, he has published two others and is currently in the process of publishing another. Thus far he has not actively promoted any of them.
He has two daughters who live in Los Angeles. His wife is the primary editor and cheerleader for his books. They live in the Phoenix area in the winter and spend summers in the White Mountains of Arizona. A book club in the White Mountains read the first book, Baker’s Dozen, and received it very favorably. They have three small dogs. The dogs are a joy to them, but are apparently making the local vets wealthy.

Excerpt from Baker’s Dozen
After a leisurely breakfast at a pancake house down the street, she walked to a subway station and rode to lower Manhattan where Jeb worked.  She arrived early, so she spent a half hour window shopping at the fine stores that lined Fifth Avenue.  At exactly five minutes to twelve she entered the building and rode the elevator up to the thirty-third floor.  Turning right as she left the elevator, she walked down a wide hallway to the end where upholstered benches lined both sides of the massive entry to the brokerage firm that Jeb owned.  A man was seated on one of the benches typing on a notebook.  She sat on the end of one bench and looked at her watch.  Another five minutes, she thought as she smiled at the man who looked up for a second, a disinterested expression on his face.  He went immediately back to his notebook.  At ten after, Rose looked at her watch and got up, walked halfway up the main hall and disappeared down a narrow hallway marked private.  On the left was an unmarked door which she tried.  It was unlocked as usual so his lackeys could come in to pamper him about halfway through his routine.  She carefully opened the door, reached her hand into the pocket with the gun, put her head inside and looked around.  Seeing nothing, she proceeded past some exercise equipment to a large wooden door with a latch on it.  She removed the gun and held it behind her, then slowly opened the door.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUVI5DW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00BUVI5DW&linkCode=as2&tag=yohameatfrbo-20     "I thought I told you twelve thir...." came Jeb's raspy voice, stopping when he recognized Rose's face.
"Rose...." he said loudly.  "What on earth are you doing here....."
"Came to settle up the account," she said coolly.
"Account..... what account?" he sputtered, tugging on the towel he had pulled around himself when the door started to open.
"Baker's dozen," she said, finally using the term that she had thought of as Judd lay dead next to the fireplace toolset.
     "Baker's what?" he half laughed.
"The thirteen of you conservative conspirators."
"Conspirators.....oh my god...." his face went ashen and his eyes narrowed.  "You....... Seattle......Lopez….it was you....." his voice nearly squeaking in terror.
"Yes," she nodded as she pulled the gun around and aimed it at his forehead.  His eyes were now wide and he was past the point of being able to speak.  He just shook his head, his eyes pleading.  Then he shut his eyes.  That's when Rose pulled the trigger and he jerked backward against the wooden slats.  He then slumped forward into a heap on the floor, the white towel red with blood that was gushing from his face.  She turned quickly and walked out.  She closed the door and retraced her steps out into the narrow hallway and then out into the larger hall, looking back toward the benches that were now empty.  She smiled in mild surprise when she saw that, then strode calmly to the elevators and rode down to the street level.  No witnesses she shrugged.  She went out onto the crowded sidewalk and back to the subway station.

Review
I was given the first and second books of this series for the tour, and while I think the two books may have been better as one, I really loved the story.  Make sure that you buy both Give Me Reason & Give Me HopeGive Me Reason ends with one hell of a cliffhanger, so you'll want to start Give Me Hope immediately!  Give Me Hope ends in a pretty good spot, but if you read the teaser from the next book...well I wouldn't recommend reading the teaser, lol.  I had more questions after reading that short little bit than I did when the book ended!  The next book doesn't come out until the end of December, so I will be so confused by the last sentence until I can read the next book, lol.  I can only hope that the author will let me review the next book as well.

They say it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

Finn McGraw disagrees.

He was just seventeen when he had a torrid summer affair with the girl who stole his heart - and then inexplicably turned on him. Finn may have moved on with his life, but he’s never forgotten her.

Now, ten years later, he’s got more than his lost love to worry about. A horrific accident turns his life upside down, resurrecting the ghosts of his long-dead family and taking the lives of the few people he has left.

Finn always believed his estranged brother was responsible for the fire that killed their family - but an unexpected inheritance with a mystery attached throws everything he knows into doubt.

And on top of that, the beguiling daughter of his wealthy employer has secrets of her own. But the closer he gets, the harder she pushes him away.

The Seacrest is a story of intrigue and betrayal, of secrets and second chances - and above all, of a love that never dies.

Review
https://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/AOSMGDRSTVOSL?ie=UTF8&ref_=sv_ys_4OMG!  I don't give away 5 Stars lightly, I LOVED this book! To have a love so strong at such a young age, only to be torn apart drastically.  A love that's virtually seamless, almost picking back up like they were never apart.  So many obstacles to overcome...Finn's love is everlasting, and amazingly strong through it all.  This story covers so many issues...so many points where I thought how could anything else possibly go wrong?  Bouncing back and forth through time, the reader finds out how their love began, all while he's going through a devastating event that turns his life upside-down that makes him question everything he thought he knew.  I hope this author steps outside the box of his normal genre more often!

Quote from bestselling author Victoria Howard
"A poignant love story that will have you reaching for the tissues...Every woman needs her own Finn McGraw..."

Review
I really liked this book.  The only thing I didn't like was the end.  In this series, the books are almost stand-alone.  The next book may mention the previous books, but it doesn't continue any of the story really, and this book ended with a slight cliffhanger.  The story needs to be continued, but the next book, if it follows the series pattern, won't pick up where this one left off.  So that struck me as a little odd.  Other than that, I loved the characters and the strength of the relationships between them.  Parts of this book made me laugh so hard, so while I am rating it a 4, it's a high 4.

Review of Ivory by F. M. Sherrill

Ivory Review Tour Button BLURB:
As a child in the desert kingdom of Gryth, Ivory witnessed the brutal murder of her parents at the hands of a sinister race known as the Lecs.

Now Queen of her people, a vengeance-fueled Ivory launches a final battle to annihilate the enemy once and for all. But on the eve of war, betrayed by her own kind and left in the hands of the Lecs, she's forced to learn the shocking truth about their two peoples, and the diabolical curse that's plagued them for centuries.

Armed with newfound knowledge and unexpected allies, Ivory must face the real enemy that's haunted her all her life, and make a choice that will mean the difference between a new beginning and the end of the world.

Ivory is an exercise in duality made reality; an exploration of darkness and light, male and female, sun and moon… seen through the eyes of two cultures ripped apart by an ancient evil whose pain resonates through the ages like the beating of a drum.

REVIEW:
I loved this book.  I almost gave it a five, but I was a little disappointed how it ended.  I didn't realize this would be part of a series.  This book is so different, the author created a completely new world where humans don't seem to exist.  With the exception of a few times I fell asleep reading from exhaustion, I couldn't put the book down.  I'd wake up after an hour or so and start reading again.  F.M. Sherrill paints a vivid picture.  The reader can almost see the orbs that warm the kingdom of Gryth, and the shadows of the Lecs.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.  I'd love to see how the story progresses from here!

Image of F. M. SherrillBIO:
Aren't author's bios boring? I always wanted to read one that went something like this:
F.M. Sherrill: recent citizen of earth. Plans on ruling the planet once she gets over the common cold. Or, F.M. Sherrill: time traveler. Decided to alter the space-time continuum by writing a novel, thus changing history slightly, which will eventually lead to the rise of a new human species.
But here it is. F.M. Sherrill is a novelist, A.K.A. an avid bullshitter; that's why she lives in L.A.. She's been writing for as long as her ancient mind can remember, devouring tales like an anemic vampire roaming the streets in hot pink heels, always thirsty for more. When she's not writing, she's making steampunk weapons, sewing giant plant-eater Mario plushes, making costumes for some film bloke or cosplayer, and sculpting/casting movie prop replicas while gardening in her urban apartment. Her favorite tools? A soldering iron, a blowtorch, a band saw, a sonic screwdriver, a replicator and an active imagination.

About The Author

http://www.amazon.com/Charlene-Martin/e/B00CW2VU7Q/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=yohameatfrbo-20I am a small town girl, I currently reside in the same city that I was born and raised in. I love watching teen drama shows, reading, writing, and listening to music.
I have a loving family my mother who has taught me about love and lasting relationships. A father who pushes me to excel and succeed at anything I desire. My younger sister and I have become very close over the years and she is very supportive of everything I do.
I have been married for nine years to my best friend. I love my husband more than anything. He is so kind, loving, and supportive. He likes to joke with his friends that, “My wife writes porn.”
We have an eleven year old daughter who is so smart and talented. I can’t believe how fast they grow up. She is turning into quite the young lady. She aspires to be so many things and I encourage them all. She loves to write songs, and has even tried her hand at writing a book. Maybe one day she will follow my example.
Being that I am from a small town, I have made some long lasting relationships. I have two best friends that I have known for most of my life. We have continued to stick together over the years and we are always there for one another. I couldn’t imagine my life without them.
Animal lover I am not, but I have a headstrong dog that is the absolute best-behaved dog I have ever seen and a cat that drives me insane, but I love her nonetheless.
I have always aspired to be a neonatal nurse and I continue to work towards that goal. Maybe one day it will come true. However, writing has become my new favorite love.
I never would have dreamed that I would become a writer, but some really great people convinced me otherwise. Eventually I decided to give it a try and what do you know? I just finished writing my second book and I couldn’t be happier. I will continue to write in my spare time with hopes of it becoming a full time career at some point in my life.
So take note, I am just a small town girl trying to bring light to your darkness, anything is possible if you work hard at it. So hold your head high, get out there, and do what you love.
